The year was 1930. A pharmacy was born to serve the medication needs of a small town where the pharmacist/owner lived there within an arms reach of the medications and supplies needed in case of emergency.

The mid 1950’s saw a new owner. Eventually, the soda fountain lost its glamour as cars were more plentiful and there were other places to go. But, the reason for the pharmacy remained. It was a place to learn about your health and get medication, either over the counter or by prescription. It was a place to get advice and help for everything from teething babies to the aches of old age.

On December 23, 1991, Mat Slakoper bought the pharmacy. The pharmacy took on new life when the Durable Medical Equipment department was added. Now customers could not only get their medicine from the pharmacy, but anything else they needed to help their healing progress.

The pharmacy services grew so much, that by 1999 the store was too small for the number of medical and medicinal products.

Seeing the number of customers who were confused by multiple medications, or who would frequently forget doses, the Medication Management department was formed. The idea that customers could benefit from a service that assured them that they were getting the right medication at the right time. This consisted of filled pill trays delivered to the home each week; keeping customers on track and healthier.

Mass produced medications from large drug companies fill the need of a large percentage of customers. However, they were unable to meet every need.

Mat’s Pharmacy provides customized drug therapy which was how the practice of pharmacy started, and by staffing a certified compounding pharmacist, the pharmacy returned to the basics of the personalized care profession that provided for the needs of the individual.
